Frequently Asked Questions
What is Ballroom Dancing?
Ballroom Dancing is a beautiful dance form which is based on of partner dancing.  Unfortunately, many people may say about themselves " I have two left feet", " I have no rhythm", "I can't dance" when they should realize that partner dancing is a learned activity and the only way to feel and know you are dancing is to learn how to do it.

Ballroom Dancing also known as Dancesport is open to people of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds.  It is a great venue for meeting people and making new friends while at the same time reaping the benefits of exercise, improving one's posture, self-confidence and overall well-being.  You'll never know how much it is until you just give it a chance and try it.  You may surprise yourself

How long do I have to take lessons to be any good?
After only a few lessons, you will know a basic pattern or two and may even feel comfortable dancing socially. Once you master the basics, you can continue to take lessons to learn new and more advanced patterns. The more you practice outside of class, the faster you will progress as a dancer.

Do I have to have any natural grace, rhythm or athletic ability?
The majority of people who take dance lessons are NOT naturals. Although some students do have more natural ability or dance experience, anyone can eventually learn enough to feel competent in social dance situations. If you feel you need more coaching, you can repeat classes or take private lessons.

Do I need a partner for lessons?
Singles and couples are equally welcome. Class participants rotate partners to help everyone develop lead and follow skills.

What happens in a class?
An instructor or pair of instructors will demonstrate patterns to participants, who will practice in class with the instructor available to guide and coach. Students will also practice to music.

How much time is involved in taking dance lessons?
Weekly classes are 55 minutes, but most students choose to supplement their lessons with additional practice.

Class Attire
Dress comfortably by wearing non-constricting clothes in layers. (You will get warm when you start dancing!) Please bring your dance shoes with you to class; street shoes are not allowed on the dance floor. If you do not have ballroom shoes, please wear non-marking, slick soled shoes.

Group Lessons
Group classes at The Just Dance Studio are a great way to learn to dance. Our groups are open to anyone. You don't have to take private lessons to take advantage of our classes. This is a great way to exercise, meet new friends and just have lots of fun. No partner is necessary for any of our groups unless specified.

Private Lessons
One on one coaching with a couple or single with emphasis on the technique and styling of the individuals.  These lessons can be a regular event or may be scheduled as needed to help with something you may not be getting in class.  Also if you find that classes aren’t your style, give private lessons a try.
Can I take just private lessons?
Yes, many people chose group lessons because the group may be too fast or slow.  You may want the to participate in showcases or competition.  You may not feel comfortable in a group setting.  Many chose private lessons to accommodate a busy schedule.

A combination of group and private instruction would be the best way to become an outstanding ballroom dancer.

Where can I practice?
The studio offers practice parties on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. Social dances at the studio and out in the  community are also good opportunities to practice.

What kind of events does the studio sponsor?
The studio's many events are on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays such as; Studio parties,  potluck dinners and the annual Toys For Tots fund raiser dance; Theme parties like a Halloween costume party, the Harvest Moon ball, the Margaritaville party and rodeo party with featured dances and lessons; and special workshops, some featuring guest instructors. Outings to other studios and dance clubs and local dance venues and shows.

Where can I use what I've learned?
Besides social activities at the studio, clubs and groups throughout the city regularly offer dances. You may also find your new dance skills to come in handy at wedding receptions and events such as company parties. Some students eventually decide to perform in showcases or even compete.
